Like Strangers

Like strangers they first spoke.
Introduced one day in person.
Goodbye stranger, hello acquaintance.
These acquaintances now spoke more often.
They conversed about religion, no religion, fears, dreams, ambitions, their pasts, their hopes and themselves to name a few topics.
They met over coffee, with other friends, sometimes just with each other.
They grew into friends. Close friends.
They confided in each other. They consoled each other and shared the deepest of thoughts.
They spoke about things they never thought they would.
They opened up in a way they never realized they could.
Now in love, they couldn't stop emotions.
Falling head over heels for one another.
Some truths told, some unsaid.
Some lies surfaced, some best kept.
More and more, attached and addicted.
To a feeling of belonging,  a feeling of loving.
But the heart fooled two strangers into love.
And 'love' they did but still as strangers.
Strangers then and strangers now.
Love had to leave them that way somehow.
For some, love is always and forever.
For others, love will always be a stranger.
