He couldn't hold a book

It wasn't an abnormality, the fact that he couldn't hold a book.
He just wasn't made that way, to be found in a bound nook.
But give him a screen and watch him go
Like a wizard his eyes moved as he clicked to and fro.

He watched a class full of bookworms as they were called
And he stood out, not ashamed of being walled.
He knew no poems or great authors by their names.
But ask him about developers of many an online game.

"Tech savvy" is what they called him
Sadly, sometimes it was "a nerd"
But he said they didn't know what it's like
To tweet freely like a little bird.

He said his world was more vast than any of their books put together,
He said they wouldn't know the joy of the world at the tip of a finger.
Why couldn't this boy hold a book in his hand?
No one knew and no one bothered to understand.

He found no joy, they way the others could
He saw nothing like it, the way they understood.
He said he belonged to the future and was probably born too early.
He said he needed to travel there and thus embarked on a journey.

Into his virtual world he climbed,
Goodbye bookworms, goodbye little minds.
Off he was to a far away land.
Where there existed no books to hold in a hand.
